Harding Cynthia

It has begun. The World Series that is, and it was a disappointing start for my beloved Detroit Tigers. It was sad to see them lose, but it was only the first game which is something that I have to keep reminding myself.

I think the best thing about watching tonight's game though was not seeing the actual players but watching the fans. I'm from Detroit, but three years ago my parents moved to a small town in southern Oklahoma, and I haven't been able to go home since. Watching the fans and seeing the shots of Detroit during commercial breaks was an amazing feeling. If I just closed my eyes, I could almost feel like I was back home. Hearing Ernie Harwell, the voice of the Tigers, doing a piece on how the Tigers playing in the World Series is a piece of hope for the city as it is trying to revitalize itself almost brought a tear to my eye because I remember with such fondness going to games when I was a kid. It made me miss home like crazy.

I think one of my favorite parts about being here is being able to spend time with the people from Michigan. I've either grown up with them or went to camp with them. I love it right now because we have all joined together to cheer on our Tigers, and even though there aren't many of us compared to all of the Cardinals fans, are voices are loud and we're going to cheer on our team as much as we can. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next few days. All I can say is, "Go Detroit!!"

Here some pictures from the game I got to go to with the "Petit Jean" staff against the Kansas City Royals.

Cynthia,

I'm praying for your Tigers! Thanks for the post. Did you know Jim Miller is going to the game Tuesday in St. Louis?
